Peaceful Poppies Hexagon Gift Box

Hi Everyone,

Today I wanted to make a gift box to hold some tea lights so I went searching through old tutorials that I had saved and found one by Crafty Caroline Creates.  This lady is very talented and made some beautiful projects, unfortunately, she doesn't make videos any more, which is a shame.  I've altered her design a little bit, so here is my take on her original design.

There is also a video tutorial for this box on my YouTube channel, click the link below to check it out:

Materials

1 piece of pool party card stock 11 5/8" x 6 1/2" and 1 piece 11 5/8" x 1"
6 pieces of dsp 1 3/4" x 1 3/8"
Scrap of silver foil
Scraps of real red, pool party and old olive card stock
Good Morning Magnolia stamp set
Painted Poppies stamp set
Painted label dies
Detailed Trio Punch
2" circle punch
Memento Black ink
Old olive ink
Die cutting machine
Simply scored
Trimmer
Bone folder
Paper snips
dimensionals
mutlipurpose adhesive

Instructions

Put the card stock on the score board with the long side at the top and score at: 1 7/8", 3 3/4", 5 5/8", 7 1/2", 9 3/8" and 11 1/4".

Then turn to the short side and score at 2 1/2" and 4".

Before folding and burnishing, cut up all the score lines on the long sides to the first score line which runs horizontally across the card.  This will leave a central core piece which is the sides of the box and the top and bottom flappy bits are the top and bottom of the box which get folded in to make the shape.  Remove the two long thin rectangles at the end of the piece, leaving the centre, small rectangle for the tab and notch that slightly.

Corner round each side of each flap, top and bottom.

Fold and burnish all the fold lines now and then glue the dsp pieces along the central strip.  Turn over and add glue to the outside of the tab, then bring the other end over to join the two sides together.

Turn the box over and stand it up on its top flap pieces while you glue the bottom together.  Starting at the piece where the tab joins, start to fold the flaps in one at a time and add a little glue to the top of each flap before folding the next one over, do this until all the flaps are glued down and then turn the box the right way up.. Put something inside the box to push down the flaps until the glue has set and to keep the box in shape.  I used a couple of rolls of ribbon.

Fold the top flaps in but don't glue them in place.

Take the 1" strip of card and wrap it around the box gently pinching it where it folds over an edge, take it all around the box until you have four pinch points, then take it off the box and lay it flat, make sure the pinch points are straight and burnish them into place.  Wrap it back around the box and when you are happy with it, trim off any excess and glue the two ends one on top of the other to form a band.

Stamp a poppy and two leaves on the coloured scraps of card and die cut them as well as the swirly circle from the silver foil.

Punch out a 2" circle from the pool party and stamp the sentiment on it with memento ink and then glue it to the centre of the silver foil swirl.  Add dimensionals to the back of the poppy and add the leaves and then arrange on top of the sentiment.

I hope that you like this little gift box and will give it a try.

Happy Crafting, see you again soon.
