Ornate Garden Ribbon Caddy

Hi Everyone,

I don't know about you, but my ribbons are always in a mess so I decided to make a caddy to keep the ones that I use most often in. It's quite a quick and easy thing to make and you could make several to sit on your shelf all to match (depending on the amount of stash you have - I don't have a shelf long enough ha ha!).

Materials

1 piece of card stock 7 3/4" x 11 3/4" (I've used old olive)
6 pieces of designer series paper 1 3/4" x 4"
Scrap old olive card for the starburst circles on the side
Scraps of designer series paper for the circles at the side
Starburst punch
2" circle punch
1/2" circle punch
Multipurpose adhesive
Simply scored
Trimmer
Bone folder

Instructions

On the short side, score the card stock at 1 7/8" and 6" and then turn 90 degrees and on the long side score at 1 7/8", 3 3/4", 5 5/8", 7 1/2", 9 3/8" and 11 3/8" and fold and burnish the score lines.

Cut up the vertical score lines on each of the long sides up to the first horizontal score on that side.  Remove the two skinny rectangles at the end and notch the remaining piece slightly (its not a glue tab, it is the lip at the front of the caddy).

Add a strip of dsp to each of the centre panels.

Starting with the lip at the right hand side you need to bring the first four tabs in to make the side of the box.  Then add glue to only the side of the tab which is folding over the one below it. If you look at the side picture of the completed box I think you should see what I mean.

The first four tabs on either side form the base of the caddy. If you hold a reel of ribbon on the inside while you bring the sides together it is easier.  It can be a bit fiddly so take your time, you can always add a bit more glue later, just add a bit and pull them together.

Then repeat on the other side and the base of the caddy is complete.

Adhere the last two tabs together on either side in the same way and this will form the lid of the caddy.

You could add circles to the sides of the base as well as the lid to cover up the edges if you want to, but I have only put them on the top.  Punch out a starburst for each side in the old olive and then punch out a 2" circle of dsp and add to the centre of the starburst and adhere to the side of the lid.

With the 1/2" punch pushed in as far as it will go along the front edge, punch out 6 holes for the ribbon to thread through.  The caddy will hold upto 8 reels of ribbon but I think there is only enough room to punch out 6 holes, you can have more than one ribbon coming through each hole (I've doubled up on one).

I hope you like it and will give it a try, its a great stash buster for those 1/2 sheets of dsp too.
