Brightly Gleaming Storybook Fold Card

Hi Everyone,

Today I want to show you how to make this pretty storybook fold card, there are a few steps to make it but as long as you take your time, its pretty simple.  I got the inspiration for this card from one that saw on YouTube made by Dawn Griffiths who is another Stampin Up! demonstrator but the one that she made was smaller and done with Australian card stock which is a slightly different size to our UK A4.  I've tweaked the measurements to make a 6 x 6 card which I hope that you will agree looks great.  I would love you to have a go and post pictures of your versions on here for me to see.

There is also a YouTube video tutorial over on my channel, please hop on over there and have a look and if you haven't already, please subscribe to my channel and help me to grow my following.

Materials

1 x 6" x 12" card stock (I have used pretty peacock)
1 x 5 3/4" x 11 3/4" card stock (pretty peacock)
1 x 5 3/4" square piece of copper foil paper
1 x 5 1/2" square piece of designer series paper (I have used Brightly Gleaming speciality dsp)
2 x 3 1/2" square pieces of very vanilla card stock for the inside
1 x 2 3/4" square of copper foil
1 x 2 1/2" square of very vanilla
Paper trimmer
Scoreboard
Bone folder
Multipurpose adhesive
Dimensionals
Stitched shaped square dies
Die cutting machine
Perfectly Plaid stamp set
Delicata ink (copper)
Clear block

Instructions

Score the 6" x 12" piece of card at 6" and fold and burnish to make the card base and set to one side.

Put the 5 3/4" x 11 3/4" card stock into the paper trimmer with the short end butted up to the top. At the 1" mark cut down from 1" - 10 3/4" to make a slit in the card, then flip the card around and repeat at the other side.

Then turn the card stock around to the long edge and you can do the next step either on your trimmer or your scoreboard, whichever you feel most confident with.
  • At the 1" mark score a line between the two cut marks only,
  • then move along to the 2" mark and score between the cut lines again.
  • Move to the 3 1/2" mark and score above and below the cut marks only
  • Move to the 5 7/8" mark and score right through top to bottom
  • Flip the card around and follow the instructions above at the other side of the card stock so that you have the same scores at either side of the piece.
Fold in half and burnish the centre fold line then at either end fold the first score line in and the second one back, this will give the appearance of a book opened out flat. Then on the outer frame section fold the middle score as a valley and the outer ones as a mountain (see picture which shows how the card inner should look from the top).

Stamp a sentiment on one of the very vanilla mats and adhere to the right hand centre section, adhere the other mat to the left hand side, I have left this blank to write my message.

Adhere the copper foil mat to the front of the card and then add the dsp layer.

Cut out a square of copper foil with your die cutting machine and then stamp a sentiment to the smaller piece of very vanilla and die cut that with the smaller square so that they layer up. Add dimensionals to the back of both pieces, put the sentiment on the copper foil piece and then stick them both to the front of the card.

Now fold the centre section and adhere the right and left end sections and between the side and the first fold on the top and bottom section and the last fold and the side on the top and bottom sections and arrange in the centre of the inside of the card leaving a small border all the way around. Make sure that you don't add adhesive past the fold lines as this will stop the card folding, no adhesive is required under the book section of the inner (see picture).

Other decorations can then be added to the front as required.

I hope that you enjoy making this card.

Happy crafting,

Karen XX
