Dinoroar Large Fold Flat Gift Bag

Hi Everyone,

The gift bags that I made a couple of weeks ago have proved to be very popular so I have decided to have a go at a larger one and am using the very cute dinoroar designer series paper as I need a gift bag for a child's birthday which is coming up soon.

There are several videos for this type of gift bag around but my inspiration has come from one done a couple of years ago by Mixed Up Crafts (Sam Clayton).

There is a video for this project over on my YouTube channel at

Materials

2 pieces of 12 x 12 designer series paper
2 pieces of card 1 1/2" x 7 7/8" (to reinforce the handle area)
1 piece of copier paper cut in half longways (for the handles)
Adhesive
Double sided tape
Scoreboard
Thin knitting needle (for rolling the handles)

Instructions

Front - score at 1 1/2" down to 7 1/2", score at 3" all the way down, 11" all the way down.
Rotate 90 degrees and score at 3" all the way down, then at 4 1/2" to the 2nd score line, then flip the paper over and missing the large middle section, complete the score on the tab edge.

Back - score at 1 1/2" down to 7 1/2", score at 3" all the way down, 11" all the way down.
Rotate 90 degrees and score at 3" all the way down, then at 4 1/2" all the way down.

Make diagonal scores from the end of the shorter score which will be the fold line out to the score lines on either side.

Fold and burnish all the long score lines and cut tabs as shown in the picture.

To make the handle, start with the long side of the copier paper towards you and starting at the bottom right hand corner, start to roll the paper tightly around the knitting needle (see picture for the angle),

when you have finished rolling, the handle should measure about 12" and be as tight as you can get it.  Put a dab of glue on the end of the piece of paper and stick down. Make another one to match. Leave to dry for a few minutes and then flatten it out along the length. Then slowly and carefully start to bend the handle between your fingers to make the handle shape, see picture.

Make a mark on the inside at the top of the front and back of the bag 2" from the fold lines at either side to show where to place the handles.  Put about 1" of red line tape on each end of the handle and stick them down (see picture).

Then put adhesive all over the reinforcing piece of card and place over the top to seal in the ends of the handle, do this front and back.

Add red line tape to the long side tab and stick the two pieces of the bag together, repeat this step with the other side to form the bag.

Fold in the back bottom flap and then add adhesive to both of the side flaps and stick them down, then glue the front flap down over the top, this will enclose the side tabs between the two layers making for a neater finish on the inside of the bag.

Stand the bag up and then push in at either side where the diagonal scores are and the bag will begin to fold, press the front and back layers together and then start to push the bottom of the bag so that it folds up against the rest of the bag and press all the edges with your bone folder.

Add a tag and your bag is complete.

I hope that you will try this gift bag.

Happy crafting,
