Bloom and Grow Tealight Box

Hi,

Today I'm going to show you how to construct a lidded box from your own dimensions and stamp your own designer series paper.

Materials

1 piece of coloured card stock (measured as per the directions below)
1 piece of neutral car stock to match (measured as per the directions below)
Ink to match coloured card stock
Scrap of both card stocks for sentiment
Embellishment
glue
Pretty Label Punch

Instructions

First decide what is going in the box.  I have decided to make a box to fit 4 tealights.  Measure the size of whatever is going in the box, in this case they measure approximately 3" square and allow a little extra for ease, I added 1/4".  Then measure the depth of the contents, in this case the tealight measures 3/4".
So this box needs to be 3 1/4" square.

Base: 3/4 (for the side) + 3 1/4 + 3/4 (for the other side) = 4 3/4" x 4 3/4", cut this piece out in the coloured car stock. Then score at 3/4" on all 4 sides and fold and burnish all the score lines.  Then you need to cut some tabs in order to put the box together. Cut up to the first score line on the squares at each corner and make small wedges on both sides, see the picture below. Do this on all 4 corners.
Fold the tabs in and put adhesive on the outside of them, then bring the folded edge of the tab up to the cut edge of the side, line it up so it is level and stick. Do this on all four corners.  You now have a box base.

Lid:  This is measured and cut in exactly the same way but needs to be 1/16" bigger all round so cut the lid at 4 13/16" square. DON'T fold and burnish yet, we need to stamp the images.

I have used the bloom and grow stamp set and randomly stamped all over this piece of very vanilla card stock with ink to match your base.  I have used pretty peacock ink (in the version in the picture above, I have used terracotta tile).  When you are happy with your design, then
fold and burnish the score lines and cut the tabs exactly the same as on the base. Glue the tabs together and then fold two of the corners in to make half of the lid.  I always then fit the lid to the top of the box and fold the final two corners in around the box, this makes for a really good fit.

Stamp a sentiment on a scrap of neutral card which matches the lid and punch out using the pretty label punch. Then take a piece of coloured card stock and fit it half way into the punch and punch out twice.  Use the two haves of the label behind the stamped image to give the label some definition (see picture).  Add some embellishments if required.

All square, lidded boxes can be made in this way, as long as you have accurate measurements to begin with, it should work.  Please give it a try and see how easy it can be.

Also, have a go at stamping out your own designer series paper, it's fun and unique to you, no-one else will stamp it out in exactly the same way.

Happy crafting,
