Stamping With Friends Blog Hop - Techniques - Blending and Masks

 Hi Everyone,

Today I am hopping with the lovely Stamping With Friends group and the theme is 'Techniques'. I'm not a fan of messy, inky types of techniques but I thought I would push myself out of my comfort zone and try some blending using the Plenty of Patterns Decorative Masks. Anyone who follows me will know that I always have lots of scraps and spare die cuts lying about on my desk and I wanted to use those too.  I've used Very Vanilla as my mat to colour on, I don't use it very often but had some pieces cut out on my desk, so here goes, wish me luck!!

1 piece of crumb cake card stock 5 7/8" x 8 1/4"
2 pieces of very vanilla card 3 7/8" x 5 5/8"
Scraps of floral die cuts, leaves, labels in matching colours to the inks used
Granny Apple Green ink
Crushed Curry ink
Pumpkin Pie ink
Pale Papaya ink
Early Espresso ink
Art Gallery stamp set
Plenty of Patterns Decorative Masks
Blending Brushes
Scrap paper
Washi Tape
Double oval punch
Simply Scored
Bone Folder
Multipurpose Adhesive

Put the very vanilla blank card on some scrap paper and tape a mask over the top using some washi tape to keep it still while you blend.

I'm very much a novice using blending brushes, so I was just playing about but basically you get some ink on the brush, dab off the excess on the scrap paper and then in circular motion start moving the brush towards your card and over the mask.  I had no plan, I was just trying colours out that I thought would go with very vanilla and sit on a crumb cake base (I had a few already cut out).

I used all 4 colours on all 4 masks with varying degrees of success.

As you can see from this picture, I have lots of bits of die cuts so I routed through them and used some of them to finish the cards off.

On the whole, I'm quite pleased with how they turned out, I will definitely try it again.

I stamped the sentiments in early espresso using the Art Gallery stamp set.
